- Go spend time with your family, they have been missing you.
- Comb the internet and your local area for reliable progressive/Democratically oriented organizations, grass roots or otherwise, that you can join, support, and co-opt. Get other local Democrats to join with you.
- Prepare to raise money during the next several years, and lots of it.
- If you have a talent-maybe you could post it on your home page, so we can exploit it. This would be voluntary, and you would obviously have the option of answering any emails on your own.
- Plan an event. A fundraising concert, an art exhibit, a yard sale, just get out there and hook up with other Kossaks or your neighbors and plan a picnic. Yes, this means you may have to shut you computer down and let it cool for a while, but it will be good for you, give you fresh air.
- Who are the leaders in your community, and what do they need to become better leaders, more effective communicators? Identify the true leaders in your local Democratic pool, and support them, get them classes if they need classes, get them supplies, get their picture in the paper, give them the money to join clubs, whatever it takes to get them out in the spotlight.
- Start your own progressive club-A prgressive book club, an environment club, a peacenick club. Keep records, raise money for yourselves, actually volunteer as a group to DO SOMETHING.
Meet once a month, engage the locals.
Examples: Plant a food garden, donate your services, Have a book drive for your local library (Here's where you can donate lots of liberal books). Use whatever resources you have available. I have worked on starting a 4-H club, with teenagers, we have a technology club and an environment club. It is hard to keep it going, but now I have more time for it, so I will be looking to expand it a little. The local co-operative extension has oodles of free information, and resources for projects, but also it helps get kids interested in a wide variety of interests, and you can tailor it to your needs.
- Offer scholarships to your local kids interesting in pursuing degrees. You can tailor this to support kids who go into political science, law, education, environmental sciences, whatever.
- Get the skills you need, take a writing course if you need to, or if you know someone who needs help getting to a school, help them.
- Be aggressive, show up at meetings, wear blue, and state your position loudly and clearly.
- Offer example. Lead with Integrity. People will follow.
