All the pundits are saying the Democrats simply can't win with a Northeastern liberal at the top of the ticket. As much as I supported Dean in the primaries, seeing the apparent fundamentalist turnout, I suspect they're right. It's also hard to win with a Congressman or Senator, because the Republicans can distort their voting records so well.
As I looked through the list of prominent Democratic officeholders last night, one jumped out at me as the kind that could do well: Viriginia Gov. Mark Warner. He's popular in a Southern state; he's balanced budgets; he's handsome; he's protestant; he'll be 54 in 2008....
Does anyone have any useful information about this man and his potential political prospects and ambitions?
If we found someone who could blunt the Republicans' advantage with Southern and midwestern born-again types then add Obama to the ticket as VP to bring out minorities and just inspire people generally, we might have a winning combination.
So what's the good (or not good) word on Warner?
