When considering a Kerry victory, I always thought how sad it was that if elected Kerry would have to clean up the President's mess. That the focus of a Kerry presidency would not be on what Kerry was truly capable of doing, but on fixing the problems Bush has created.
I worried that the economic and geopolitical mess would fall into the Democrats hands at the worst possible time. Not a hot potato but a red-hot hand grenade with the pin already pulled.
The situation in Iraq and the President's reckless fiscal policy are already manifesting themselves in a rapidly declining dollar. That is just the beginning. The US is headed for a recession or worse. It would have been a shame for the Democrats to inherit the nasty four year period we are about to enter. It will leave a lasting impression on voters and they can only point their fingers at the Republican overseers. At least now, ideally, the Republicans will be held accountable for years to come.
The social & cultural ramifications of a severe economic crisis are going to be downright scary. Many of us have not seen anything yet in terms of division in America. Racism, poverty, crime. In such a negative environment I preferred the liberal tendencies of a leader like John Kerry - whose wonderful concession speech today only reinforced my sense of what a truly great man he is.
Mr. Bush will reap what he has sown. Hopefully, his Party will be reaping for years to come.
(Gotta admit the way I feel right now, with our luck, an economic depression would play right into the hands of the anti-crime & evangelical wing of that party.)
