Friends, it's time for us to gather together and see what we can do.
I'm not sure I buy into the idea that "we lost on values," and I'll explain why tomorrow. Still, I think it's inarguable that liberals of faith, particularly liberal Christians, are going to play a critical role in the next couple of election cycles. We may be the only ones who can neutralize the right-wing "moral values" flank.
Our secular friends will also have their hands full, giving us what support they can, and reminding the country that the US is not, has never been, a "Christian nation".
In any case, I think that at the very least, we need to draw up a list of faithleft resources, perhaps at the dKosopedia. After that, we should probably work on ways to connect the various groups and improve/create coordination between them.
I've heard one or two folks talk about creating a liberal Christian radio station, which is an excellent idea. I have no freaking idea how we'd get the ball rolling on such a thing, but it is an excellent idea. Perhaps we should contact the UCC Office of Communication? They're generally excellent and definitely left-leaning.
And as stupid as it sounds, I think we need to start a new blog. Hear me out! I think we need a faithleft equivalent of dKos, a participatory democracy centered on activism, information sharing, and fundraising. I know there are plenty of leftish Christian blogs out there, but none them really fill the bill. If we can find some geeks who can help us implement Scoop, and few bloggers who can comment on Islam, Judaism, Humanism, and other non-Christian belief systems, we can found a mighty cool place.
Well, them are my ideas. What say you?
Leave an idea or three below, or just leave your name if you have nothing else to add. I will work at building up a list of us lefty believers, see what we can accomplish together.
Update [2004-11-4 21:28:3 by pastordan]: Spit take on the Holy Water! When I left this afternoon, there were 20 comments, and I thought the thread was petering out. Guess I know what I'll be doing the rest of the evening...
