Fox News is reporting ten hostages taken at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. "We don't know by whom, and we don't know what for." 6th Street is closed downtown from Lake to Rampart.
Now being reported on CNN. There is a standoff with the police and the city is on "tactical alert.". SWAT teams surround the building. Please post here if you hear anything and I will update.
UPDATE: CNN is reporting an unknown number of hostages, no one will confirm Fox's figure of ten. Here's more from local NBC:
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Police Department put the city on tactical alert Tuesday, and evacuated the area around the Mexican Consulate General due to a hostage situation.
The Consulate spokeswoman said the incident occurred inside the building.
Witnesses said a man came into the Consulate with a gun and held up a female cashier.
The suspect brought a female hostage outside building, and was shot by police. The hostage appeared to be unharmed.
LAPD took the man into custody with injuries and was transported to a local hospital, according to NBC4's Justin Jaeger.
