In 2000 Bush came here to DeAnza College for a speech. About 10 or so of us went to protest. We are a group of middle aged women (all hot mind you, but "old").
We had signs in the shape of Ducks, that said "Bush Ducks the issues" and more.
At one point we went behind a group that was standing at a rope, and guess who was walking to greet them? Bush! We raised our signs, he shot us a DIRTY look, and turned and walked away without getting close to his "supporters," because he didn't want to be seen with "protestors."
Later the SS told us we couldn't have our signs, fine, but we demanded ALL the Bush supporters had to have theirs taken away as well (we hid ours, to be used later).
To make a long story longer, we finally figured out that we would stand at the exit that he had to drive by. The police there were very nice, and let us stand there for a bit, with our signs, and then figured they had better check it out with the SS.
The SS asked "what do the signs say" and over the radio, for all to hear, the police repeated our duck signs. After some grins, and laughter, we were told we couldn't use the signs there. We left, found a corner on the street, and managed to hold the signs up as Bush drove by.
In 2000 Bush was "managing" like no one had before, making sure that that which was counter to his campaign was not heard or seen.
I knew then that Bush was bad, that we would see things from him we never imagined, and so far I haven't been let down.
Sorry..just a long post about something I couldn't get out of my mind today.
