I'm still voting Democrat, but I have to say I'm done supporting party based politics. It's starting to look more and more like a game of divide and conquer. Party based politics do nothing but divide and dilute the power of the working class. Instead of 20 million unemployed Americans, we have 10 million democrats and 10 million republicans out of work.
Roe vs. Wade now just looks like a very cunning strategic move. If it wasn't for that gigantic distraction to the women's movement we might be getting equal pay right now.
We have to start focusing the power of the growing online population towards issues not parties. And I say the number one issue facing America in 2005 should be... free wireless Internet service for all!
Do Party based politics work anymore? Living in Kansas with nothing but Red as far as the eye can see, I'd have to say no.
This last election made it painfully clear to me that party based politics do nothing but divide and dilute the power of the working class. We need to find ways to focus our energy on issues that everyone agrees on and stop supporting parties who only want to talk about issues that no one agrees on.
We need to return to a fundamental principal of America. "These politicians aren't meant to lead us, they are meant to represent us." We can make the basic decisions about what is best for us as a society, the only thing we need the government for is the logistics and the execution of our needs.
The people should decide what the issues are and put the politicians to work, not the politicians deciding the issues and putting us to work. We hired them to do a job, and it wasn't to decide what we needed to be doing.
We have to start getting our voices behind issues not parties. The great reform came from issue based movements. Civil rights, women's rights, the right to union, and so forth.
Right now in America the politicians are now being USED by the businesses to distract and cover them while they oppress the people of this country. And what do we do? Keep on swinging at their puppets? No. We go after the businesses themselves who are against our issues one by one.
Any business with the power to influence politics is big enough to rely on the stock market for financial support. The power of the stock market and the "sway of opinion" the media can bring about, gives the people of this nation way more power over the businesses then over any nameless faceless politician they throw up at us.
Going after Big business also allows us an opportunity to fight for our issues year round and not the politicians up for election every four years. It's the business side of America that is deciding what the issues are and what they aren't. That has to stop.
The strength of this nation has always been in its people and we have to explore new ways to show that strength year round and not just at the voting booth. Big business has had its hands in politics for long enough with little or no repercussions. We have to show that the politicians still work for the people not the other way around.
My crazy idea for the Online Party.
I think that no matter Republican or Democrat everyone with online access shares the fact that they have to pay to get online. Therefore I propose creating an online party based solely on the issue of creating equality in the access to the information highway.
In other words; I want the government to create a work-project similar to how they created the highways. Except instead of road, provide high-speed wireless internet access for free. I want them to pass the cost of creating and maintaining the network to either a few cent sales tax on internet purchased goods or out of the internet businesses profit margin. The online business community would ultimately have to foot the bill of the project but could maintain the bottom line by dramatically increasing their customer base.
We have to take the burden of financing the internet away from families and put it on the people profiting online. This is the very thing the government was designed for; orchestrating large nationwide projects that help and benefit everyone in the nation.
We as a nation can either pay trillions of dollars a year to these mega-wealthy companies for internet access and phone service or we can ask the government to step in and provide it for a tax on goods sold online. If government ran we would only be paying cost, not trying to reach the profit margins of dozens of different companies.
It should be the guys buying smut online paying for the internet, not single moms trying to help their kids with school. If our government had a lick of initiative, it wouldn't be the porn industry leading the development of the internet, it would have been fixing the education system.
I see all these "service providers" like highway bandits back in the dark ages that made you pay toll for passage. Instead of passage on a road or bridge we get passage to the information highway. I view the government's behavior like a king that doesn't care as long as the robbers are paying their taxes to the king.
If you read this far thanks :-)
