Cross-dressing leads to homosexuality?

Thu Nov 18, 2004 at 04:09:29 PM PDT

When I first saw this news story, I thought it had to be a joke.  It's not.  It turns out to be a sad but true look at how the right-wing thinks about sexuality.  The saddest quote:

"It might be fun today to dress up like a little girl -- kids think it's cute and things like that. And you start playing around with it and, like drugs, you do a little here and there (and) eventually it gets you," Davies told reporters.

Yeah, right. :(  I think that woman needs an education, not her kids.  Read the full story below:

'Cross-Dressing' Out, Camouflage In

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Camouflage was in and cross-dressing was out at a rural East Texas school district after a Christian legal group complained a long-standing school tradition of reversing social roles for a day would promote homosexuality.

Students in Spurger, Texas were encouraged by school officials to wear camouflage hunting gear to class on Wednesday after they called off their annual "TWIRP Day" in which boys dressed as girls and vice versa.

The cross-dressing tradition began some years back as a kind of Sadie Hawkins Day where girls ask boys to go out on dates.

TWIRP stands for "The Woman Is Requested To Pay."

But Delana Davies, who has two children in the Spurger school, complained this year that the tradition could promote homosexuality and got the Liberty Legal Institute, a right-wing Christian legal group, to take up the cause.

"It might be fun today to dress up like a little girl -- kids think it's cute and things like that. And you start playing around with it and, like drugs, you do a little here and there (and) eventually it gets you," Davies told reporters.

"It is outrageous that a school in a small town in east Texas would encourage their 4-year-olds to be cross-dressers," institute litigation director Hiram Sasser said.

He sought and obtained permission from the district for the woman's children to stay out of school for the day.

School attorney Tanner Hunt told Reuters the Liberty group misrepresented TWIRP Day and made it sound sinister when it has always been innocent fun.

"I guarantee you nobody on the school board or in the administration ever had that cross their minds," Hunt said of the "cross-dressing" reference.

Sasser said it was not his intent to disparage the school.

"The district gets mad every time I say 'cross-dress,' but I don't know what other way to describe it," he told Reuters.

Because of the controversy, school officials decided to change Wednesday from TWIRP Day to Camouflage Day, in what Hunt described as a reference to the clothing hunters wear during deer-hunting season, which is going on now and is enormously popular in rural Texas.

Despite the change from TWIRP Day, Hunt said some of the students stuck to the old tradition and wore clothes of the opposite sex.

"I understand from the superintendent that some of the boys dressed in pink shorts anyway," he said.

We have a lot of ignorance to combat in this country.  Sometimes I forget how deep that ignorance and hatred runs.

These people seem to be doing battle with deep, dark almost over-powering desire. I really beleive that a lot of these gay bashers are awful closet cases. It is like a lot of them have "decided" to be straight and need Jebus's help to stick with their decision.

I just don't get the need for gay panic unless you really want, deep down to be gay.

    •  ESPN: are your boys safe? (none / 1)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the defining characteristic of gay men the fact that they are romantically and sexually attracted to men? Not pink. Not skirts. Not bras. Not heels.

The real threat, then, is ESPN and all the other sports channels with their closeups of those sweaty, muscular, intense men.

But that would be too logical.

  •  I think it's scary (none / 1)

that they were more concerned with little boys wearing skirts than with kids coming to school dressed in the kind of clothes people wear to kill other people.  It's sort of similar to the people who complained about soldiers in "Saving Private Ryan" swearing, but neglected to be offended by the same soldiers cutting other people open with knives. I don't understand how violence became so acceptable, and homosexuality so evil.  The bible condems violence a lot more strongly than it condemns homosexuality. Heck - Violence mad the "big 10", whild condemnation of homosexuality is limited to mostly ambiguous passages in the old testament.

To hell with independents... I'll stick with the party that brought us social security, civil rights, and environmental protection.

Jesus was a bit of a panty waist about violence, but the old testament God was a real champion of wrath.

Parents misbehaving? Kill them all. And their children.

One nation under God. Wiping out cities is okay. Teaching teens about condoms is evil.

  •  The same thing happened here (none / 0)

in Louisiana. The Galvez School administration cancelled a pageant ,were boys dressed up as girls, just hours before the event, because of 'poor interest'.In fact the school was bombarded with phone calls by angry parents.
BTW,the school held pageants like that in the past without protests.

If the far right wingers from the article weren't Americans, I'd have no problem going to war against them.

And, yes, most of the extreme hate comes from people who harbor powerful gay desires.  The deep down logic is this, "If I can't have any fun, then nobody else should either"

Anyway, cross-dressing doesn't lead to homosexuality, it leads to fashion sense.

Look Out! Homosexuals are gonna force your guns to have abortions!

    •  Fully cross dressing would lead to (none / 1)

      fashion empathy.

Pantyhose would be out. High heels with pointy toes would be out. garments that you couldn't fasten or unfasten without assistance would be out. Neckties would be out. Peace would guide the planets. Love would steer the stars.

      •  Not if we let drag queens rule the planet (none / 0)

sure peace would guide the planets and love would steer the stars, but we'd still have to deal with panty hose and high heels I fear.

we can turn everyone except the drag queens on those ones, I'm afraid.

dressing boys up like girls and vice-versa?  What does this have to do with school?  This was obviously gonna cause an uproar.

    •  "Tradition", of course. (none / 0)

Which most likely means, the idea was conceived by students, popularized by students, and made part of the school year by students. Apparently the school administration didn't see anything wrong with it. Good for them. As for those who would get offended with that, I highly recommend a high colonic, if you can handle strangers touching your rump. Even if you can't--get the high colonic. Something needs to be loosened up back there.

George W. Bush's Journey: The Cross Dressing Cheerleader

ANDOVER, Mass. -- Perhaps there have been other presidential candidates who have dressed in drag, flaunting their legs from beneath a (fairly short) white skirt. But George W. Bush is probably the only one who has done it in front of a camera.

A photograph showing George and friends wearing wigs and employing falsies to fill out their sweaters appears in a yellowed copy of the school newspaper of Phillips Academy here in Andover, near Boston. It was 1963, and George, then a high school senior and head cheerleader, was leading a skit intended to mock rival schools.

  •  Crossdressing leads to...? (none / 0)

    ...What, exactly?

Hell if I know. I started crossdressing as a child and now live full-time as a woman. But if you think that crossdressing causes transsexuality, why, I'd like to know if you might be interested in buying a charter school situated in the God-gifted beauty of the Florida Everglades.

Maybe we could get a grant for a study.
