Daily Kos

Proposal: New section/category for diaries

Wed Nov 24, 2004 at 07:56:06 AM PDT

With DemFromCT posting the interesting Die Zeit article about the next four years -- http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/11/24/8552/9215 -- I think there is a need for another diary section:  "Alternative POV on America."  This section could range the from foreign press to Mother Jones Online-type publications.

So what do you think?  Are you interested in POV sources and stories other than the standard POV provided "the American corporate media lapdogs."

  •  Categories (none / 0)

First we need to get some categories for the diaries.  That would go long way to helping organize the information and keeping 10 items on the same topic from pressing other news out of view.
  •  how I found dKos (none / 0)

A few months before 9/11 (already sickened with the media's complicity in Bush II and <gasp!> I voted for him in 2000 in the non-swing state of Arizona -- Gore was a Bore during the campaign), I bookmarked roughly 30 overseas news sites, cateogorized by region (Middle East, Asian subcontinent, Western Europe, Africa, etc.).  It has been especially interesting to read news in non-English language sites.  I am vaguely fluent in French and can read Spanish passingly.

What an amazing ride it was reading all the foreign POV from 9/11 through the build-up and execution of the Iraq War.  Someday I might even collate my thoughts on what I've learned from reading the foreign press the past 3 1/2 years.

Somewhere along the way, I discoverd dKos in early summer 2004 and sadly because of the volume of excellent reading to do here, I hardly read foreign sources anymore.  But I've been meaning to strike a balance and hell believe it or not, there is even more to be re-reported here at dKos that is not making it.

I think it is incumbent of us to read alternate POV's, even FoxNews, just to see what others are thinking.
