President Bush likes to keep his distance from the sinking ship that was Swift Vote Veterans for Truth (sic). But here in Texas, Bush's ties to John O'Neill and other O'Neills is well known. John O'Neill, of course, is the Nixonian dirty-trickster and outspoken Kerry-hater who says he has had no contact with the Bush campaign.
Among other facts, when governor of Texas, Bush appointed Harriet O'Neill to a state appellate court. Harriet's husband was Jack O'Neill, John O'Neill's law partner in the prestigious Clements, O'Neill firm in Houston.
Don't forget that the late Tex Lezar, former husband of Merrie Spaeth was also a partner in the Clements, O'Neill law firm.
The O'Neill connection can be found in Texas Lawyer, March 2, 1998. The story is called, "LEGAL ESTABLISHMENT'S "DONE DEAL" AWAITS VOTERS' RATIFICATION."
