So I'm just home from work, unwinding and flipping through the channels on the TV, when what should I see but
this commercial.
(OK, I'll confess that I saw it during "Wheel of Fortune". Smart move on the GOP's part.)
In it, the California GOP is using Steve Westly's quotes to portray Phil Angelides as an out of control taxaholic. Not that it should come as a suprise. After all, many saw it coming, and the ad practically wrote itself. Not only did the negative ad campaigns turn off voters during the primary, they provided Republicans with plenty of fodder. I just was surprised to see it used so soon.
I must admit: I found the ad to be persuasive. It doesn't really seem negative. It's got funky music. And I think it's enough to plant the seed of doubt in voters' minds -- especially small business owners -- that Phil Angelides might make things worse for Californians, rather than provide solutions to the problems we face.
Today we see how Schwarzenegger's carefully adjusting his image once again to distance himself from Bush on the border patrol and on global climate change. Angelides has got his work cut out for him. Where is he?
