I'm in the Rosenberg camp for DNC, but I want to throw out a name for President in 2008: Rom Sims, Washington State King County Executive.
He takes tough positions, e.g. tax reform. He's a great stump speaker. People love him. He actually really believes that the purpose of the Democratic Party is to fight poverty. He's a Baptist minister. To the extent 2004 turned on likability, he'd be a great choice. Same for moral values, although I don't think that was issue it's been trumped up to be. He has experience in governance. King County has more people than, for example, the State of Vermont. He's well versed in international trade issues. He's got strong pro choice, union and environmental credentials. If Dean could do it, why not Ron?
Downside is that he lost the gubernatorial primary to Gregoire. Thank the corporate Democratic types here. They sucked the air out of the race with money and the mantra that she would sweep the state because she was a woman so she didn't have to take a position on anything. Some sweep. He supports equality out loud, including same sex marriage. I don't personally think the latter is a poison pill, but I'm curious what people think.
