Are we tired of coming up with core values yet? I needed to sleep on it, and came up with the above.
I'm not going to provide laundry lists of policies under these, although pretty much everything that was discussed in the main page threads yesterday would qualify under one of them (at least loosely). The point is use and repetition, not an encyclopedic scope to cover every aspect of progressive thought. After all, the Republicans have somehow claimed "family values" at the same time they are making things more difficult for families in a huge number of ways.

Diversity - American is an incredibly diverse country, and that diversity is one of our strengths. The Democratic party needs to stand for diversity - a diversity of voices, a diversity of beliefs, a diversity of lifestyles. Diversity says we will respect and listen to each of those voices. Diversity says that only when we recognize the variety of voices will we able to effectively carry out this messy, rambunctious, sometimes tedious project called democracy.
Diversity is coupled with Security. Security is the basis for all government; the world is a dangerous place and we build institutions to make it safer. As Democrats, we stand not only for physical security, but economic and emotional security - access to education, employment, health care.
There can be conflicts between Diversity and Security - that's good. When you are Responsible, when the government is Responsible, conflicts can be managed wisely. With a Responsible citizenry, Diversity and Security can flourish. With a Responsible government, Security will not overstep its boundaries, and Diversity will not be misused to eliminate all sense of values.
