I'll give Gregoire credit. This is something she should have done in the beginning. Now Rossi should challenge her or she challenge him to accept the result. Much better than settling this on the dueling field.
To make sure that the result is fair, we need to be sure the rules for the count itself are well thought out. The Seattle Times estimates that each Counter will have to count 11,000 ballots a day.
This is a an awful lot of stray marks and chads.
My suggestions:
- No blind counters will be allowed.
- Counters will be paid on an hourly rather than a piece work basis. However, to encourage the work, winning teams will receive Christmas bonuses.
- No guns should be allowed in the counting room.
- Counters will be drug tested each day before counting.
- Counters may not have more than six cups of caffeinated coffee per day. Nodoz will NOT be allowed.
Amenities for counters:
Pfizer Corporation is donating free Visine eye drops to all counters.
Disneyland is offering a free trip for the five Counters who achieve the highest number of Counts per day.
Starbucks has offered to provide free coffee and background music.
