Dear Friend:
Thank you.
It's been an honor to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate and to work for the kind of people I grew up with in Robbins and the people I met in all 100 counties.
Earlier this week, I had the chance to visit one-on-one with many of you as I traveled around the state to tell people just say how grateful I am. A stop in Greenville was typical. C-SPAN plans to broadcast that town hall meeting this coming Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. It's a chance for people all over the country to see some of the good people I worked for in the Senate. You also can read more about the Tar Heel Thank-you Tour here, and on the Senate web page here.
Let me say this as simply as I know how. I love North Carolina. It's who I am. It's where I learned the values we all share - faith, family, and hard work. It's my home, and every time I cross that border my blood pressure goes down and my tension goes down.
That's why our family will be moving home after Elizabeth finishes her treatment and our 6-year-old Emma Claire and 4-year-old Jack finish their school year.
As for our future, we haven't decided exactly how to do it, but I know for certain what Elizabeth and I will be doing. We're both going to stay involved. We both will continue to work hard on issues we care passionately about. We don't know any other way. She will continue to help young students in North Carolina develop computer skills and hone their writing talents. My heart is now in public service. I'll be speaking out on national security issues, health care and poverty.
So as my Senate term comes to an end in January, I want once again to tell all to know how much I appreciated the opportunities you gave me.
There's one other thing I also want you to know: This fight not over. And not only is this fight not over, I'm not through fighting.
Sincerely,
Senator Edwards' signature.
