Reality check.
We havent had a terrorist attack on the US in MORE THAN THREE YEARS.
Terror fears dominate our political discourse not because "terrorists are on the march" but because the Republicans are hyping terror fears to stay in power.
They would have a lot more credibility if they were actually doing everything possible in the area of homeland security (safeguarding ports, chemical factories, water and food supply, etc.) but they arent doing that. And we havent had an attack anyway.

I dont for a second want to suggest that we shouldnt do everything possible to safeguard ourselves. We should. But we should then have a normal life which doesnt center around a "war on terror". In fact, the best possible policy after rooting Al Qaeda out of Afghanistan would have been (and still is) to NOT invade any other countries but to work on our own issues.
The Brits have suffered from IRA terror for decades but dont live worrying about terror every day. Other Europeans have terror problems too but seem to lead normal lives. Even the Israelis dont center their existence around terror all the time. We can and should do the same.
