Over the past few months I've spent quite a bit of time here, spun a few diaries that found their way onto the Recommended List, and made comments that quite a few folks liked and rated accordingly. Any way I look at it, it was a positive experience. I poured my heart and time into working to get Kerry elected, indeed committing myself to it full time.
But the election is over, at least for me. I'm tired. I can no longer find the fire of inspiration to come up with comments, and my latest Diaries are full of information and short on inspiration. At least that's how I feel.
I know that many people want to continue to fight for the heart and soul of America, who feel that is best achieved through organization, and to those I say more power to you. But to those of you, who like me, are tired and emotionally spent by all things political, I offer this: there is a light of hope. A better world is possible, and it will happen because of people like you and me who are willing to make a change in themselves; a change that begins in your heart, your mind, and your soul.
To win back America, we do not all have to be leaders in the Democratic party or leaders on DKos; there will be those who step up and fulfill those roles. For the rest though, change begins by being and living peace. By that I mean it is necessary to maintain a heart that is pure, to express love of family, of friends, of those things you appreciate, and to discard expressions of hate, even to those with whom you disagree most. Hate breeds more hate, and if hate becomes part of us, we lose. As an example, I remember hearing Rush Limbaugh once disparage John Lennnon for the song All You Need is Love. Limbaugh was spewing hate and bile at Lennon and at those who admire the sentiment expressed in the lyrics. To that I ask the question, who do you think will be more fondly remembered by future generations, Rush Limbaugh or John Lennon? I ask who would you rather use as inspiration, Rush Limbaugh or John Lennon? I ask what is wrong with love, and what is to be gained with hate? Who is the loser, Rush Limbaugh or John Lennon?
The answer, I think is obvious.
So I'm signing off. Someday I may be back, but for now it's on to other endevours. So I'll leave you with these words from the song Kingston Advice by The Clash (who I'm sure Rush Limbaugh also hates):
In these days to be an oddity
Be hunted down like a scarcity
In these days don't beg for life
Wanna take Kingston advice?
Oh please don't beg for your life
In these days nations are militant
We have slavery under government
In these days in the firmament
I look for signs that are permanent
In these days with no love to give
The world will turn with no one left to live
