McCain confuses me. He campaigns with Bush despite the atrocious attacks launched against him during the 2000 primaries while consistently critizing the administration's leadership. At times he's in line with what I believe in and is usually one of the only Republicans to stand up once in awhile. My respect for that critical ability has vanished after the past election cycle where McCain became just another shill for BushCo. It's almost as if his infrequent opposition of Bush is part of the plan, to give the impression that the Republican party is not just a bunch of neo-cons. The truth is that the GOP is being run by the far right in lock-step with the Falwell-esqe moral majoritans.
PHOENIX - U.S. Sen. John McCain said Monday that he has "no confidence" in Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, citing Rumsfeld's handling of the war in Iraq and the failure to send more troops.
"I have strenuously argued for larger troop numbers in Iraq, including the right kind of troops -- linguists, special forces, civil affairs, etc.," said McCain, R-Ariz. "There are very strong differences of opinion between myself and Secretary Rumsfeld on that issue."
When asked if Rumsfeld was a liability to the Bush administration, McCain responded: "The president can decide that, not me."
