Pursuant to Digby's post regarding
taking the fight to the right, Brad Plumer's post on
open-source politics, we've got an honest-to-god silver-platter laden with ammo in the disaster that was the attempted Kerik appointment.
It hits Rudy real hard and could strip the bark off his reputation as the 9/11 mayor, as well as opening up an investigation into his cough company. If we're lucky, indictments may follow, and if we're luckier could kill two birds with one stone by getting Elliot Spitzer into another high-profile corruption case.
But perhaps more importantly, it shows a complete lack of seriousness on behalf of the Bush administration about protecting America, and it requires no qualification or explanation, it's right there in black and white.
It's already cooked and ready to serve, all that's left to do is the repeated table-pounding. Not ridicule, not jokes, not "it saddens me", but righteous fury on behalf of all Americans. If they were willing to put this clown in charge of Homeland Security, after the record he had in Corrections and as Police Chief, what sort of havoc would he have wreaked with the power of DHS behind him? How could this administration possibly have nominated a corrupt, mob-connected, philandering, petty criminal to protect us from the threat of Islamic terrorism?
When are they going to get serious about protecting America from terrorism!? (You can imagine me at this point pounding the podium, or coffee table, or the closest gaffer, you get the idea...)
As much as I get a private little thrill reading Josh's posts (and an even seedier in depth view from Steve Gilliard's posts here), what I'd rather see (or at least read about on Monday morning) is every Democratic guest on every single Sunday talking head show angrily banging away at how egregious and unforgivable this nomination is when America needs real leadership in protecting itself from terrorists.
My invitation to appear on MTP hasn't arrived in the mail yet, so it's going to have to be the ones that have gotten theirs.
Next week will be like every week of the last four years, and the Republicans will serve us up another hot platter of gross incompetence, and we'll get to pick a new wound to pour salt into loudly and righteously. But this week, how about a coordinated, raised-voice, angry denunciation on every channel, on every show, from every Dem with a voice?
