I posted this in a thread but there were already more that a two hundred entries before I was done. Decided to make a diary....
Dems have lost the frame war on the word "morality"...
..got to do a better job of framing what morality REALLY is.
1. [n] concern with the distinction between good and evil or right and wrong; right or good conduct
2. [n] motivation based on ideas of right and wrong
The religious right have gotten away with framing morality as
"motivation based on ideas of Christianity vs. Secularism"
When they frame morality in their way it has nothing to do with what's right and what's wrong...thier way its only what is Christian and what's not Christian. You may not know this but, in southern Baptist churches you often hear this.
"...what you do in your short life on earth doesn't matter. It only matters that you believe in Christ. That he died for our sins. No matter how much good you do.......no matter how many people you help........no matter how much money you give.......its all for nothing if you don't believe Jesus is the son of God and he died for our sins......"
I've heard it time and time again.
My advice is to never....ever question their belief system...it won't do you any good. We must frame what we say so it corresponds to their religious beliefs. an example-
"But I've got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States." - B. Obama
Find me a candidate who can speak to southerners who can visit a rural town church in Georgia and say, "I find myself wanting the same things Jesus wanted, I want to see that sick get better, I want feed the poor, I want to help those who cannot walk to once again be able to stand...........I can accomplish these things by providing better health care for Americans, help keep jobs that are currently being shipped overseas here in America so we can all earn a decent wage and feed our families. I want to make sure that our doctors and scientists have everything they need at their disposal to help those who are sick or injured....." yadda, yadda, yadda...........Photo op: head bowed in prayer
find this and you re-take the south.
Maybe someday Jeffrey Feldman can do a frameshop on "Morality" some day.
