I haven't seen one of the excellent diaries that another blogger has been posting reguarly on this topic, so I decided to go ahead and post this one.
38 out of 39 counties have reported their recounted numbers in the Governor's race. King county, the 10,000 pound Democratic gorilla, is the only one that hasn't reported yet.
I added together the recounted numbers from the 38 reporting counties and the original numbers from King county, and got this:
Gregoire (D)- 1,373,003
Rossi (R)- 1,373,053
Bennett (L)- 82,351
This means that Gregoire must pick up a net of at least 51 new votes in King county in order to win, which probably makes it possible for her to win without the 500 and something ballots that are currently being contested in the courts. Previous estimates were that Gregoire would need a greater gain in King to win.
Bottom line: I'm feeling the best about this race that I have in weeks. They've found plenty of Gergoire votes in the Democratic counties, and done well enough in the GOP counties, to make a Democratic win a real possibility.
