This story has me so stunned, I'm almost at a loss for how to respond to it. My first thought is to forget politics and worry...worry about terrorists attacking our troops and within the United States with finer-grade weaponry than they've ever had before. My second reaction is to be furious...furious that the administration and military leadership that has constantly pooh-poohed our anxiety over rushing into war has completely overlooked one of the most necessary aspects of a wartime duty. But ultimately, the political ramifications do seep back into one's consciousness...along with the realization that eight days is barely enough time to make the impact of this fuck-up impact the entire electorate.
We have to hit this hard. We need to formulate the direct questions that have to be asked and we have to create the fury that gets them answered (or at least reacted to now). The administration has stonewalled this thing for 18 months and its obvious they're going to attempt to ignore until after Nov. 2. We can't let that happen. We have to hound the press. I'm sure Kerry and his team will hit this hard, but that's not enough. If it comes from the Kerry campaign only, it will seem like a partisan attack to the uninformed. This story has to come from the press. And its got to be our task to make the press report it. Any ideas?
