We closed up the counting shop today. At 11:30, the last box was counted and sealed, so King County is done counting in the big warehouse! All that's left is today's canvas board meeting and tomorrow morning's date with the Supremes. RonK or N in Seattle may correct me, but it sounds as though the 735 ballots will go to the canvas board if the Supremes rule with the Dems.
To answer your questions: No, I don't have a sense of the numbers. Chris gained more votes than Dino, but I don't know if it's enough. We all hope she wins without the 735, but if we get them it looks pretty good.
So, yesterday I officially got sick and goddamn tired of Republicans, and quit playing nice with them. More on this later.
My daughter (12) and father joined me today, and we found that Rossi's campaign manager and his father were in the house. We had a little inter-party multi-generational confab that would have made a great special interest story, except we're all a little tired of the media (and each other).
I am convinced now of two things: People can be trusted to vote, and to count votes. And we need to do away with electronic voting. If we add paper ballots to the process, we're just adding an expensive, hackable machine to the process we already use. However, why do we need to electronically store the votes themselves? Why not have a dumb terminal that accepts your vote and prints your ballot, but doesn't save your information? Then we count the ballots using Opti-scan like we always do. After viewing all these funkyass ballots, I'd be much more comfortable if a laser printer were filling in the little ovals so we didn't have to guess at voter intent during recounts.
Anyway, it's time for some chrismahanukwanzakah switzer-shopping with the switzer familia, so I'm out. I'll write more on all the excitement later.
