SEN. John Edwards lost some votes in the disabled community the other night when he failed to provide a sign language interpreter during a speech in Rochester, and then patted a wheelchair-bound woman on the head. "It seems that Sen. Edwards lacks disability etiquette," Debbie Bonomo, who has cerebral palsy, said in a news release from the Center for Disability Rights. "Just because I am a woman who uses a wheelchair does not mean anyone should be patting me on the head. That is so 1950s." Edwards spokesman Colin Van Ostern told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle: "I'm sure his interaction with them was intended to be respectful."

Now lets think about this for a second. If John Edwards did pat a woman in a wheelchair on the head and that person was so offended, don't you think she would have TOLD John Edwards. Or maybe the center for disability rights would have called the Edwards campaign. And the line "That is so 1950s", doesn't that seem to be over harsh to what may or may not have even happened, or if it happened, would have in no way been meant out of great disrespect.
So they sent out a press release on this! Something smells very fishy about this, especially since just yesterday John Kerry launched a Americans with Disabilities Community Page. I mean lets be serious, Edwards has had to meet hundreds of disabled voters during the last year and there was no Press Release before....
Have the dirty tricks begun?!?
