Australian/American FTA

Lets start with USA crackdown on piracy I'm sure we are all for it.
article
"THE US Justice Department is to launch a massive global crackdown on intellectual property (IP) crimes, including copyright infringement, counterfeiting, illegal distribution of movies, theft of pay-TV signals and peer-to-peer music file-sharing.
According to US trade estimates, worldwide IP theft costs US companies $US250 billion ($320 billion) a year, and counterfeit products cost hundreds of millions more in lost taxes, wages and jobs."

So how does America enforce it in other countries lets look at what ISPs in Australia are saying about the FTA
article
"The Internet Industry Association claims the changes make possession of pirated material a criminal offence, with ISPs legally liable for infringing material that crosses their networks."

Story continued

But what does that really mean????
article
"The bill, which passed the Senate tonight, will enable people other than copyright owners to force internet service providers to take down material allegedly infringing copyright."
Alright I think I have it America is going after IP infringement, ISP's are responsible if someone breaks the law and you don't have to be the owner of the property to have it removed from a website. So who owns the Fullujah pictures???and a pile of other videos etc showing what is happening in Iraq and would this allow the American Government to enforce the removal of such and stop ISP's transmitting it.

Personal view doubtful at this stage but does look more and more as if the necessary legislation is being put in place to enable some thing like that to happen in the future.
