It seems like every other diary over the past few days has addressed something having to do with trolls. Who is a troll? When is it appropropriate to give a troll rating? Who has abused his/her power to give troll ratings? Should we troll rate even non-disruptive comments from known trolls? When should we uprate comments that have been hidden that we disagree with but don't think are trollish? When are retaliatory troll ratings acceptable, if ever? Is it best to engage the troll in debate, post a recipe, or ignore the troll? Are the troll wars destroying dKos? Can we just blame the whole thing on Armando?
I don't mean to criticize the people who have posted these diaries. Some of them have been very informative and well-written. But I think we need some catharsis, and then we need to move on.
Frankly, there isn't much about the troll wars that is either very interesting or any fun. We do, however, have a fun way of dealing with trolls. From the FAQ:
Instead of writing detailed rebuttals of whatever claims or argument the troll is making, the standard response to a troll diary is to post comments containing recipes for tasty dishes. Plenty of examples can be found in the Troll Diary tag. An entire cookbook of recipes has been collected and is being sold as a fundraiser.
I suggest it's time to start on The Trollhouse Cookbook, volume 2. Post your favorite troll recipes in the comments. The next time you feel like you're about to lose your temper at a particularly vicious troll, use this diary as a resource and post a recipe instead of an angry rant. Let's get past the troll wars and discussions and get back to what we all love about this site so much: the politics.
(In the interest of full disclosure, I should point out that I've posted most of my good troll recipes at one time or another. Also, I'm on summer break right now, which is the only time of year I actually have time to try new recipes, so please post something good!)
Credit for inspiring this diary goes to Quotefiend, with a response to this recipe I posted earlier today.
