As of 12:10 a.m., we have no idea who has won the election for Mayor of Detroit. Results are currently
close. With 52% of precincts reporting, challenger Freeman Hendrix currently leads incumbent Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick 54% to 46%. The part of this diary I am pissed off to write about is yet another election has been totally FUBAR'd. Precinct results have been delayed due to the loss of a transmission line at a polling place, so the machines had to be taken to the election center.
Controversy still surrounds the absentee ballots as the FBI got a court order requiring that they be preserved after the election in order to investigate claims of fraud. I will keep you posted of further developments.
UPDATE 2:
Mayor Kilpatrick is about to declare victory at 2:15 EST.

The situation is getting worse. The computer system seems to have completely failed and they have repair persons working on the optical scan system. Forget about knowing who won tonight.
