In a column now posted on the Heritage Foundation's website, Ann Coulter makes the following claim:
Bush's National Guard service is the most thoroughly investigated event since the Kennedy assassination.
Huh?
Apparently Ann reads the newspapers about as often as the president she reflexively defends.
So herewith I shall initiate a contest: Let's see if we can come up with as many possible events -- and notice she didn't limit herself to government-related or politician-related events, implying all events -- that were more thoroughly investigated than Bush's service record. Everything from OJ's floor mats to Britney's Vegas nuptials are therefore in play, along with countless government-related investigations.
Oh, and keep in mind that Coulter says the whole matter of Bush's service "has been reported - with documentation - many times by many news organizations. George magazine had Bush's National Guard records 3 1/2 years ago." (Ann apparently has no facility for recognizing her own self-contradictions; if George had all of George's records 3 1/2 years ago, how is it some of them were released less than 3 1/2 days ago?)
No, no, no. Because we are talking about vetting a man before he becomes president, Ann, the threshold for reportage is that lone Boston Globe article in 2000. And we'll throw in the George mag piece for good measure. That's one newspaper and one magazine piece -- a pretty tough level-of-investigation threshold to clear.
Somehow I'm guessing the Kossacks will be able to clear that bar....again and again and again.
Start leaping.
