Shame on Lizzie Dole

Wed May 19, 2004 at 09:32:06 AM PDT

This morning during the Armed Forces Committee hearings, Sen. Dole referenced 4 slain contractors from her home state in addition to Nick Berg before asking what the Armed Forces were doing to protect these "unarmed civilians" that were doing "God's work" in Iraq to help along the recondstruction process.  She also called them heros.  I would suggest that Sen. Dole owes the American public an apology for using known security contractors (i.e. mercenaries) as an example of how the U.S. armed forces are not doing enough to protect unarmed American civilian workers.

It seems that the Republican talking points on this these days seem to go something like this:

"Blah blah blah Nick Berg blah blah blah four contractors burned alive blah blah blah oh yeah we're here to talk about mistreatment of detainees."

We all know that Nick Berg and the deaths of those four contractors have nothing to do with each other or with the treatment some of our people have shown Iraqi detainees. This is nothing more than rhetorical damage control. For me, it brings to mind Bush's rhetorical linking of Saddam Hussein and 9/11. It's an attempt to reduce the outrage by implying that the detainee mistreatment wasn't as bad as the other events.

We have our nominee. Now it's time to drink John McCain's milkshake.

  •  God's work? (none / 0)

Did she really refer to the functions of the civilian workers as "God's work?"

-6.88, -6.72. The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off.

So she worships at the altar of Bush?

I did that as a young person but it got me into too much trouble.  Bush worship is not good.

  •  Liddy Dole is an Idiot. (none / 0)

Instead of calling mercenaries and missionaries heroes she should have been showing her outrage as a former head of the Red Cross about how their cries of prisoner abuse were going unheeded and their personal witnessing of abuses were shoved aside. What a loser she is not to be fronting this charge to defend this organization.

  •  Has she ever been other (none / 0)

than what she was this morning, and in the other hearings as well?

I saw an old harridan, puffed and poufed and spouting polemics and preaching ignorance.  This bizaare christianist quasi state religion.  I have run out of words for all of this.  Collaborationist, part of the instigator, white dominant class.

It is one of the enduring faces of America.  I thought I saw facial implants as well...
