So now it's "We're finally turning the corner".
Couple of things that strike me as interesting:
- How many times have they changed their message lately? Quite a bit, it seems to me. I can't recall off hand the last four or five slogans, but he went from being a war president, to a peace president, from things are great in America, to "we know some people are still struggling" (that was just before the convention). All this change surely means that their messages are not working.
- Turning the corner acknowledges there was a corner to turn. Not a secret, but not sure it is great idea to showcase that fact in your main campaign slogan.
- It's risky in that a couple of bad employment or economic growth numbers make you look out of touch. Which is what happened yesterday with slowing growth, consumer spending down, and some weaker employment numbers. Maybe we didn't turn the corner after all.
Rove might be losing his touch. Or maybe the raw material he has to work with is way too shitty.
