more on Bush, God, & Tool

Mon Jul 19, 2004 at 11:04:23 AM PDT

President Bush loves God.  He would love it if everyone knew how much he loves God so when they think God, they think Bush.  In fact, Bush wants us to think that he & God are homies.  Check it out...
"I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job."
There you have it - Bush is doing God's work, so sit down & shut up, all you Jews, Muslims, Bhuddists, and everyone out there who doesn't believe in Bush's Christian God.  Don't get me wrong - I consider myself a non-religious Christian.  I think that Jesus taught some great lessons, & led by example (treating the poor, outcasts, etc. like human beings), but I don't believe that the bible should be taken literally.  Anyway, my own personal feelings aside, what Bush said immediately reminded me of this song:
Opiate, by Tool  Read they lyrics...It kinda freaked me out  (All emphasis mine).
choices always were a problem for you
what you need is someone strong to guide you

deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
what you need is someone strong to guide you...
like me
like me
like me
like me

if you want to get your soul to heaven
trust in me, now don't you judge or question
you are broken now, but faith can heal you
just do everything i tell you to do

deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
what you need is someone strong to guide you
deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
let me lay my holy hand a, hand upon you

my god's will
becomes me
when he speaks
he speaks through me

he has needs
like i do
we both want
to rape you

jesus christ, why don? you come save my life, now
open my eyes, blind me with your light, now
jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now
open my eyes, blind me with your lies, now

if you want to get your soul to heaven
trust in me, now don't you judge or question
you are broken now, but faith can heal you
just do everything i tell you to do

jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now
open my eyes, blind me with your light, now
jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now
open my eyes, blind me with your lies, now

deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
let me lay my holy hand a, hand upon you

my god's will
becomes me
when he speaks
he speaks through me

he has needs
like i do
we both want
to rape you!

I do believe Church and State should be separate in as much as the State shouldn't be able to regulate the Church and the other way around. I honestly don't mind, though, when public figures base their actions on their faith as long as we know what they think before we elect them. I want to know any elected officials views on morals/ethics/whatever and have a good idea of their philosophy or faith no matter what they are before I vote on them because I think that's what they really ought to be basing their decisions on and I want to make sure their philosophy is in line with mine. Don't we all?

What pisses me off about Bush is how much of a stealth candidate he was. Talk about flip-flopping. He campaigned for one crowd the first time and now he's campaigning for a much more religiously fundamental crowd the second time. I don't know that we know what he believes personally but I do know I'm sick of what he's telling everyone he believes these days and how much he's acting on it.

"Iraq was because of bad intelligence.

9/11 was because of intelligence problems.

Abu Ghraib was because of a few bad apples.

I suck at public speaking because of God."

He never takes responsibility for anything, does he?

That song is timeless. I wish my sound card wasn't fried.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

So true, sadly - People will always try to use religion to control the masses.
