Anybody else reading the 9/11 commission's report?

Fri Jul 23, 2004 at 05:41:52 PM PDT

Hey I was just curious if anyone else here at dKos is reading the 9/11 Commission's Report. If you haven't looked at it, I would highly recommend that you do; the more people at this site who are knowledgable on the report, the better. I think it's important that we take our own word for it and not the media's right wing spin. I've read the first 50 pages and I've learned a lot about the 9/11 attacks which I had not known previously. So far it has been both chilling and, at parts, inspirational. It is well written prose and reads, in my opinion, very easily (though I find pretty much everything that I read interesting too).

  •  Friday night fun. (none / 1)

I'm finding it riveting, especially the personal information about the hijackers (249), and the info on how important the Sharon-Bush connection was to Bin Ladin in determining his resolve to attack (250).

  •  Just bought it today (none / 0)

Only 9.95, too. Looking forward to reading it. I've always felt that the media, especially TV (which probably shouldn't be considered journalism anymore, at least as a rule) hasn't given us half the picture.

    Thank you, Howard Dean.

  •  I wonder if Bush is reading this? (none / 0)

If he truly cared, he would.  And after reading some of the things that I'm reading, he would have to come to the conclusion that a serious personal apology was in order, and he would have to decline a second term.  It's really that cut and dry to me.  This is very sad.  Its bipartisan nature (and it is very fair and factual) makes it all the more damning.

    Quote:
On may 29th, Clarke wrote to Rice and her duputy, Stephen Hadley, "When these attacks occur, as they likely will, we will wonder what more we could have done to stop them" (256)

They had 3 months at that point in which to act and they did nothing.  nothing.  Bush went AWOL again, to his vacation ranch.  It is clear that his MO when things get uncomfortable is to run away.

  •  You mean the 9/11 Cover Up? (none / 0)

"Scamming America: The Official 9/11 Cover-up" is named after a quote by former Sen. Max Cleland, who resigned from the commission last November with the words, "Bush is scamming America."

Cleland attacked his own commission after the other members cut a deal to accept highly limited access to CIA reports to the White House that may indicate advance knowledge of the attacks on the part of the Bush administration. "This is a scam," Cleland said. "It's disgusting. America is being cheated."

"As each day goes by," Cleland said, "we learn that this government knew a whole lot more about these terrorists before September 11 than it has ever admitted.... Let's chase this rabbit into the ground. They had a plan to go to war and when 9/11 happened that's what they did; they went to war."

    Why should I read falsifications?

    •  you're right, a search for "edmonds" (none / 0)

Only finds her name once in the notes.  It references the fact that they interviewed her and that's it.  There is nothing in there about her claims.  It still has enough juice to help get Kerry elected, though.

only one question, will it show up on the list under fiction or non-fiction?
