Today in the NY Times, Bush is quoted as saying, "I can understand how some Americans have had their confidence shaken." (
http://www.nytimes.com/...) Umm, well, no.
Dubya, over 60% of Americans do not approve of your handling of the war. Only 30% or so do approve. That is not "Some Americans", that is "The Majority of Americans". I could say, "The Vast Majority", but to me "Vast Majority" means 80% or 90% or more. So since I am careful with words, unlike you, I won't say that. I'll just say "Majority".
But when Americans disapprove by a 2-1 margin then please don't say "Some".
And why shouldn't a majority disapprove? Remember, that genius Wolfowitz thought that the war would cost
exactly $1 million! That's right. When pressed on it, he repeated it: $1 million, $1 million! With his genius for math it's a good thing he's now head of the World Bank, right?
And remember too, you told Biden (I think) that there would be NO casualties. None. Zippo. Apparently you had consulted with God and God had told you there wouldn't be any casualties at all.
Now it looks like the war will cost $1 trillion or maybe even $2 trillion. Dollars. Greenbacks. We're talking about real money now, by any standard. And last number I know is that 2,318 Americans have died, 15,000 or so have been maimed, and countless others have suffered severe psychological damage and ruined families. Many are taking anti-depressants while being forced to go back for their third tour. And maybe 100,000 or more Iraqis have died. And who knows how many have been maimed? Really, who knows? A million?
And it looks like, despite all your spinning, that the situation in Iraq is getting worse. It looks like it may be turning into a civil war and the US military may have to pull a fast exit to avoid being decimated. This is coming from people that actually are on the ground over there, unlike your elites that sit safely in Washington.
So please don't say that "Some Americans have had their confidence shaken."
