Sustained Hysteria

Wed Aug 04, 2004 at 06:52:54 PM PDT

Former NSA Director for Reagan calls Bush's terror policy "sustained hysteria"-in other words there is no policy. But we all knew that didn't we?

Anyhow heres the partial transcript:

Excerpts from Larry King:

> LARRY: Let's get some perspective now on this heightened terror alert.

> Joining us, the former director of the National Security Agency,
> Retired U.S. Army General William Odom. He is now with the
> Hudson Institute here in Washington.
>
> [ . . . ]
>
> ODOM: I'm critical of having a counter terrorism policy which really
> amounts to little more than sustained hysteria.

  •  Love Gen Odom (none / 0)

and I am not a fan of Larry King but he had him on during th war... good obsrvations... In May, Odom said Iraq is a "shattered country" and we should declare NO WMD, Saddam in custody and pull out.
Well a General and former NSA, Hudson Insititute (boni fide old school conservative) and further in late May Leslie Gelb arranged for him to be the conference call on Iraq for the Council on Foreign Relations.  I'm off to read it.

hmmm he says largely what Larry Johnson said yesterday on Lehrer, and it makes enormous sense... to me anyway.

Sustained hysteria, yup.  And strange that anyone buys in.  Of course we are under threat.  Without and within.

    •  Hmm (none / 0)

I didn't know all that. Thanks very much for sharing your information.

I'm too disgusted right now to think of a sig.

      •  Oh you are welcome... (none / 0)

After I hit post, I worried I had been a little off topic.
Honestly I caught LK every night during the war (and in fact one night Odom said it was not a sure thing, winning the invasion, along about between the 23th and the 26th of March, I almost dropped a plate) he often had Odom on, and he alwsy always ahd one or two fo the ME TV or print media.  It made for a  balanced conversation, often with interesting asides ... and at one point I remembered something very simple, for all his smarm and leaning on "murdertainment" he comes from the era of the Fairness Doctrine and it really does make a difference.

        ....;-)

  •  Oh dear! (none / 0)

You know Odom's vision is that we pull out now to whip ourselves into shape for a much more forceful entry later, don't you?
