Raiders of the Lost Ark

I was watching Raiders of the Lost Arc recently on TV after having not
seen it for many many years. The lead female role Marion Ravenwood
(played by actor Karen Allen) said something that was quite odd, but
that not very long ago seemed quite normal. Basically, she was in the
middle of being kidnapped by a group of Arabic people, and she yelled
out something like "but stop, I'm an American". I actually remember
years ago thinking, when traveling abroad, that being and telling
people you were an American gave you sort of an immunity against
harm. These days, I find it shocking that someone would say such a
thing is such a situation. Now, when I travel abroad, I'm anxious to
even show my American passport.

In sum: Thank bush for destroying American respect and credibility
world-wide!!

  There are still a few countries where the old blue passport comes in handy... but your'e right, for the most part I practice saying "eh" and looking Canadian, however possible that is :)
