Email CBS to keep up the fight.

Sat Sep 25, 2004 at 08:43:32 AM PDT

I have gotten hold of the following email list of every CBS affiliate that the LGF crowd is astroturfing.  Well, it's time that we show a little love as well.  Cut, paste in the cc or bcc and fire away!!

I have already emailed my support.

I guess if you find this useful (and I really hate to beg...)

  •  Most ISPs (none / 0)

Most ISPs will block sending to this entire list all at once.  You must split it into 20 or so names and send a different group each time.

When I did this, I had a sentence about why I was writing to them although I was not a viewer in their broadcast area.

Also give a reasoned argument about how Rather's team did their due diligence, but were deceived, unlike the failure to vet the Swifties claims.  All the negative posts say is that they will not watch again--the same spam message.

Most stations accepted the e-mails.  The mail servers at some stations automatically kicked them back as undeliverable.

I think we need to do this because the major wave of the Freeper e-mails has passed.

    Hello,
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment at hearing CBS has deliberately put off running an important story on the "uranium from Niger" faked intelligence issue until after the November election.

The announced decision cites faulty logic, and appears to be a response to the heat CBS has recently taken for its 60 Minutes II story on President Bush's National Guard service.  If CBS has information that would be of use to the populace in deciding who should be president over the next four years, then CBS would not only be right in making that information public before the election; it has a journalistic obligation to do so.

It is not "inappropriate" to run a story damaging to the incumbent shortly before the election.  If that were the case, then news outlets should self-censor any information that casts the President's decisions or current conditions in a less than stellar light.  As most reasonable people can see, this is absurd on its face.

Quite simply, CBS's decision amounts to censorship of important news, undertaken out of concern for CBS's public image.  And far from this decision being made to "avoid influencing the election", the deliberate refusal to make important information public when it's ready to be made public, solely out of concern for not influencing the election, is in and of itself an action that influences the election, in that such action withholds information the public needs to know to make an informed choice.

Nor will such a decision make the information appear more credible or the reporting more solid.  People who would find it not credible in the first place are not about to believe it more if it's run after the November elections.  Such people didn't find CBS credible in the first place.  They are not interested in credible reporting or accurate information; they are interested in partisan gain.

I realize that CBS has undergone an ordeal over the last two weeks, and that you're likely a little shell-shocked.  I realize that your reputation has taken a beating in some ways.  But you need to realize that this is not the way to rehabilitate that reputation.  Rather than making CBS appear unbiased and an organization trying to do the right thing, you are garnering a reputation for a news outfit that can be humbled by political pressure.  If that's the case, then CBS should get out of the business of providing news, since it's clear you can't handle the consequences as well as the compensations.

    Best Regards,
    xxx
