I am a lawyer in Canada and have been watching with absolute amazement as Bush has torn your country apart and destroyed all that you hold dear.
For many years I have told myself and anyone that will listen to hold tight, that America is a beacon of light that always seems eventually right itself. That we should stick with America because it is made of stuff that is stronger than just one Administration.
But now I do not know anymore.
This week, we discover that Bush crossed a line that should not, that cannot, be crossed in a democracy. This week, it came out that the Administration beleives it can authorize unwarranted searches of property.
Without being overly dramatic here, I just want to say the following to everyone on this site. You are the bearers of a great burden and gift. You now inhabit a country where your leader speaks of democracy and offers you none, where freedom is a word that is best invoked to describe congressional culinary cuisine, where idiocy is celebrated (Bush) but goverance (Clinton) is shunned.
And yet somewhere... somewhere amoungst all he corruption, amoungst all the SUV's, Bill O'Reilly and guns, somewhere there is the old spirit of America - the America I and billions of others who live outside of the US once admired.
That spirit is alive in the people who frequent this blog. That spirit is the embodiment of what made America, well, America.
You guys are the keepers of the flame. Without your spirit and energy, there will be no one left to light the fire when people return to their senses and vote this Adminstration out of office.
Please keep strong. The rest of the world still needs you.
