Climbed the Mighty Mountain

In his closing remarks Bush said

We've climbed the mighty mountain. I see the valley below, and it's a valley of peace.

That sounded like some sort of biblical talk raw meat to his fundie base.  My spouse said it sounded somewhat familiar (he almost became a priest) but that he thought whatever the quote was, Bush he screwed it up.  Likely because he doesn't know the bible very well and only plays a Christian on TV.

Now searching about 20+ bible versions at http://bible.crosswalk.com/ I did not come up with anything for "valley of peace" and nothing relevant for "mighty mountain".  Can you figure out what he was trying to communicate?  Where is pastordan?

  This is interesting- the "Valley of Peace" is what the enormous cemetary in Najaf next to the Imam Ali shrine is called. Very odd.

  Isn't that the same cemetary we were shooting up a couple of weeks ago?

•  I found the comment to be quite wierd

  So we climbed a mountain, leaving the valley of peace.  To me it seemed like Bush was trying to be Reagan, but it panned horribly.

  Yep, it's probably a mangled version of King's paraphrase of Exodus:  "I have been to the mountaintop.  I have seen the promised land.  I may not get there with you..."

  As for the Valley of Peace, I don't believe that's in the Bible.  The Agonist suggests it might be some drug-crazed and very altered quote from Bob Dylan here.

  Any way you slice it or dice it, it's a weird, weird statement from a man whose synapses don't quite fire like yours and mine...
