Hi folks.
This really is the last chance to avoid repeat of Fahrenheit 9/11 opening...
destined to repeat itself Thursday morning UNLESS YOU HELP!
Monday morning PLEASE take the few minutes to call a senator to ask them to join Representative John Conyers when he argues that the Ohio electors were not lawfully certified...
I've tried calling Kerry's office--
they told me that they want to hear only from constituents--
Call him anyway!
And call your senators (yes, even if they're old hacks like Dodd and Lieberman)--
dare them to stand up and be Democrats!
Call toll free: 1-877-762-8762
(note I just dialed this-- it is correct! call daytime)
Tell them to join with John Conyers when he argues that
the Ohio electors have been unlawfully certified
(see directly below for talking points).
Talking Points from http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/123104W.shtml:
Rep. Conyers and the other House members involved do not believe the electors have been lawfully certified. They believe that there has been too much illegal activity on the part of Blackwell [the Ohio Secretary of State], other election officials, and Republican operatives on the ground and therefore, as stated in the letter, the electors were not "lawfully certified" under state law.
From Conyers's letter: The Senators who shall receive the greatest focus from Conyers in this matter are Biden, Bingaman, Boxer, Byrd, Clinton, Conrad, Corzine, Dodd, Dorgan, Durbin, Feingold, Harkin, Inyoue, Jeffords, Kennedy, Kerry, Lautenberg, Leahy, Levin, Lieberman, Mikulski, Nelson (FL), Jack Reed, Harry Reid, Rockefeller, Sarbanes, Stabenow, Wyden and Obama.
Why should you bother? So you can live with yourself.
I went down to PA and worked as hard as I could so that I could know that I did the best I could have to defeat Bush. I do think that my depression was less than most friends and family because I knew that I couldn't have given more in time or money.
Here's a chance for you to do the same.
Know that you tried hard to reach senators to join Conyers
to avoid a repeat of the fiasco on the senate floor in 2000---
where one congressional representative after another was dismissed without testimony because NO Senator took a stand with them.
Don't let this happen again!
Suggestion-- call as many as you can, but at LEAST pick 4 Senators--
your two and then two more
how about Leahy so he can say F-U to Chaney?
Jeffords so it's not a Democratic issue? Kennedy? Obama?
Promise-- it won't take too long-- and it will make you feel like you DID something.
AND SEND THIS ACTION TO EVERYONE--don't wish you'd done more when are democracy is no longer salvageable...
All my best,
ss
P.S. If you want to organize an action in your state for Jan 6, or live in or near Ohio or DC and are willing to go to Rally's organized by Jesse Jackson, the Green Party of Ohio and others, see below.

On January 6 in Washington, D.C.
Tell Bush: We Will Stop Voter Disenfranchisement!
Tell Congress: Stand Up for Democracy!
On January 6, 2005 Congress will meet in joint session to certify the 2004 presidential election. On that day, if one member of the House and one member of the Senate object to the certification of the vote, then all members of Congress will finally discuss these issues. On January 6, 2001, not a single Senator would join with the Representatives who demanded an inquiry into the Florida recount. This year, let's make our Senators take a stand!
Join Medea Benjamin, John Bonifaz, David Cobb, Congressman John Conyers (invited), Alysia Fischer, George Friday, Rev. Jesse Jackson (invited), Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (invited), Rev. Lennox Yearwood and many others as we: Rally at 10:00 a.m. in Lafayette Park across from the White House. We will then march to Capitol Hill to join with others at the U.S. Capitol at noon.
We need an investigation into the Ohio vote on November 2, the seriously problematic "recount," partisan, discriminatory decisions made by the Secretary of State, electronic voting machine fraud, not enough machines in predominantly Black precincts, and all of the other ways that voters were disenfranchised in the USA.
While our Senators and Representatives are inside Congress, tallying the electoral college vote, We the People must have a presence outside, bringing attention to the disenfranchisement, suppression and fraud that pervaded the 2004 election - and demanding real reforms to extend and protect democracy in the U.S. Please join us on January 6 in Washington, DC. Check http://www.nov3.us <http://www.nov3.us> , http://www.votecobb.org <http://www.votecobb.org> , http://www.counter-inaugural.org <http://www.counter-inaugural.org> or http://www.pdamerica.org <http://www.pdamerica.org> for more information.
Leading up to the January 6 events there will be a major rally in Columbus, Ohio on January 3 at 2 p.m. organized by Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and other groups. For more information go to http://www.rainbowpush.org <http://www.rainbowpush.org> .
If you can't come to DC, we urge you to organize an action on January 4 or 5 at a Senator's office in your community, and list your event at http://www.nov3.us <http://www.nov3.us> . And on January 6 let?s flood the Senate with calls all morning and afternoon; the Capitol Hill information number is 202-224-3121.
If the Ukraine can have a re-vote,
why can't the U.S. have at least an investigation into vote suppression?
