Dear Senators,
I am a registered Democrat and have voted consistently for Democrats for over 20 years.
I am very concerned about the clear evidence of widespread suppression of the African American vote in Ohio and elsewhere. I am also alarmed at the passivity and silence of Democratic leaders in response to the many other kinds of electoral irregularities that have surfaced since November 2nd, 2004.
This week, I have called and written my own Senators and several others, asking them to join Rep. John Conyers on January 6th when he challenges the Electoral College votes.
I voted for Senator Kerry, who promised to make sure every vote was counted. He has already broken that promise. Today I called his office to urge him to challenge the vote on January 6, but was told his staff was not authorized to provide any comment to voters regarding Senator Kerry's position (if he has any) on election irregularities in Ohio, and that, in fact, the Senator is "out of the country" at this time, visiting Iraq, and is not available to answer questions from voters and constituents.
I have heard that Senator Kerry is toying with the idea of running again in 2008.
I have a message for Senator Kerry and all other Democratic Senators.
I will be watching C-SPAN on Thursday, January 6. I want to see whether any Senator takes the issue of fair elections seriously. If no Democratic Senators step forward on January 6th to challenge the Electoral College votes, I will take it as my mission from now until 2008 to see that these Senators are held accountable. I will campaign actively for the defeat of do-nothing Democratic Senators in my state, and I will make donations to the primary opponents of Democratic do-nothings in other states.
Democratic Senators, if you think that it is risky to your career to stand up for democracy, please consider also that if you FAIL US AGAIN, you will find that many thousands of formerly loyal Democrats -- even nice soccer moms like me -- have become your implacable opponents, and want nothing more than to see you defeated and out of office.
Unlike most Senators, I am not wealthy. The greatest legacy I can pass on to my children is democracy. Don't take that away from my children. If you do, then not even your Republican overlords in the Bush Administration can protect you from the outrage of decent men and women.
In case you have forgotten, here is the video of the shameful day on January 6, 2001, when not a single member of the U.S. Senate had the simple decency to join those members of the House of Representatives who tried to challenge Florida's fraud-obtained electoral votes.
