When will we learn
From the desk of "The Free Speech Zone"
Yesterday an amazing thing happened. The main stream media was covering, over and over again, Rice defending herself against her lies. All day and all night on these news stations we see the message of the Right crammed down our collective throats. Non stop. We hear of people on our side, good, if not a bit misguided, Democrats talking about how we need to go to the middle so our message is heard. This is so wrong. Nothing could be more further from the truth. Yesterday was a great example. All evening I watched as Rice's testimony before the senators was played on the news. Rice backtracking, defending herself, looking the fool, all because Boxer had the cajones to say it like it is.
More.... But you got to get over the hump.....
There were many other Senators who spoke. Many of them were very kind and apologetic. Thanking Rice for her service and kissing her ass as best they could in order to gather a few scraps of good favor from the Bush cabinet. But were those the clips that played on TV? NO. Were those polite ass-kissing sessions the front cover story in my paper today? NO. It was Boxer slamming the gauntlet down on rice that god the media into a frenzy.
Sen. Barbara Boxer: I just feel you quote President Bush when it suits you, but you contradicted him when he said, "Yes, Saddam could have a nuclear weapon in less than a year." You go on television nine months later and said, "Nobody ever said it was. ..." Condoleezza Rice, nominated as secretary of state: Senator, that was just a question of pointing out to people that there was an uncertainty. No one was saying that he would have to have a weapon within a year for it to be worth it to go to war.
Sen. Barbara Boxer: Well, if you can't admit to this mistake, I hope that you'll. ...
Rice: Senator, we can have this discussion in any way that you would like. But I really hope that you will refrain from impugning my integrity. Thank you very much.
Sen. Barbara Boxer: I'm not. I'm just quoting what you said. You contradicted the president, and you contradicted yourself.
Rice: Senator, I'm happy to continue the discussion, but I really hope that you will not imply that I take the truth lightly.
You know you want more
You see the media loves a good story. Senator after Senator crawling up into the confines of the rear end of a member of Bush's cabinet is not a juicy story. Boxer handing Rice her own ass with a side of mash potatoes, now that is a good story.
You see Democrats? We can own our party, we can own our issues, we can be ourselves and stop whimpering in the middle and it wont hurt us. It will HELP us. The sooner we learn this the better. Say what we feel. Be controversial. Throw the lies of the Bush administration back in their faces and watch as the media jumps on it and gives it airplay. John stewart will bring it home for us.
So if we play our card right we can indeed get media attention, while at the same time getting our message out. This is all thanks to Senator Boxer. Now go show her some love.
