I was listening to a show on Iraq on NPR today and I was struck anew with how vulnerable the Republicans could potentially be in '06, especially considering the debacle that SS could end up being for Bush. But, IMHO, I just can't see the Dems fully capitalizing unless they can develop a strong narrative to match the Republican narrative of self-reliance.
I was thinking that a narrative which focuses on Democratization, i.e. maximizing the individual's options in society and his ability take part in the political environment. Dean did a good job of pushing this in the run up to the primaries. I could imgine how we could bundle a lot of the policies we hold dear under this sort of banner.
Any other ideas?
