Now and then I like to offer up something a little light hearted to ease the spirit. In a couple of previous diaries/comments I've suggested folks go outside to look at a happening meteor shower, comet, or northern lights. Now I'm offering up some information on one of the events occuring around my neck of the woods. I would be interested in other mind easing events happening in yours. It might be nice to share this type of information once in a while for dKos members who might like a heads up about events near where they live or might be visiting.
This weeks offering is the
New York State Snow Sculpting Championships taking place in Glens Falls, NY. Glens Falls is about 45 miles north of Albany (and about 30 miles south of my home).
Ten three person teams spend three days carving 10 ton blocks of snow into beautiful artistic creations. Winners go on to the nationals in Lake Geneva, WI. The teams of sculptors work round the clock, but often do their best work at night. And now that the cold spell is breaking (it was 24 below yesterday and 22 below this morning...), viewing weather should be spectacular.
Admission is free. So, any members of the dKos community who might be in the area, stop by for an unforgettable experience.
Lots more on snow sculpting here.
Disclaimer: Images posted in this diary are not necessarily representative of what you'll see in Glens Falls, but they are really cool chunks of snow!
