George W. Bush: He's not just Jeb's "Big Brother" anymore.
The GOP must be held responsible for demanding political correctness with their new Social Security speech code. This has to be another line in the sand. We need to start taking names and extracting a price for press and network outlets that fall in line.
The press and the networks must be held accountable and be made examples of to the degree that they follow the GOP speech code correctness line. We have to be hitting THE PRESS AND THE NETWORKS early and often: Reciting Republican market-researched "speech codes" is not journalistic neutrality, it is indoctrination. Are you journalists or GOP staffers?
The press must pay a price and suffer the consequences for toeing the line. Toeing the GOP line must be framed as willfull, self-conscious, partisan concession. Each concession to the GOP correctness speech code must elicit outraged letters and phone calls to the editor. Every time, every day.
Adoption of the new speech code will be a press declaration of their pulling for the Republican camp. Is that the message they are trying to send? We need to hit this over and over and over. These refs need to be worked. Blogswarm, indeed.
Every line the GOOPERs used in the 1980s political correctness debates applies to the new GOP branding strategy for enforcing speech codes for journalists and politicians. Are they instituting a new Stalinist state that dictates how and what Pravda can print? Is the GOP the sole and final arbiter of news language that is politically permissable? George W. "Big Brother" Bush.
