Gonzales to be confirmed as Attorney General. The cultural cleansing of our public airwaves, refusing to air any controversial or mind-opening content no matter how real it is. The elimination of our abilities to hold corporations and government accountable for their errors, lies, and distortions. The insurance of the legacy of 21st Century America as political/religious dominance rather than a more perfect union.
And to top it all off, most of our new generation do not understand or worse do not care about the fundamental freedoms that have given them the lives they love.
Quite simply, we will live to regret it.
When we find ourselves in a huge economic pit that becomes infinite thanks to a health crisis, we will live to regret it.
When we find ourselves in a jail cell because we spoke disapprovingly of our president or elected officials, or worse have us dubbed as a domestic terrorist, we will live to regret it.
When we find ourselves surprised at how the world is more advanced than we are, or worse we still do not understand why they hate us when their freedom is greater than ours, we will live to regret it.
When ordinary US citizens are captured for suspected wrongdoing and tortured, and have it considered legal thanks to our government's approval of torture, we will live to regret it.
When our dollar becomes so low in value that we can no longer afford to travel abroad for fear of losing countless amounts of cash, thus making us further isolated from the rest of the world, or we refuse to fund international causes out of fear of being poor, further giving America the "stingy" reputation, we will live to regret it.
When our social safety net goes up in smoke thanks in part to China's desire to no longer fund our deficits as well as to our collective apathy towards stopping our current government from squandering it for private accounts and the stock market, we will live to regret it.
When our modes of transportation become more dangerous because we are unable and unwilling to sacrifice anything to help repair damages done to our roads through weather or other human-created calamities, we will live to regret it.
When our television shows and news programs become so sanitized that we shock ourselves, possibly to death, when we see what is real, either up close and personal or through foreign papers, shows, or photographs, we will live to regret it.
When our air and natural resources become so tainted by pollution that we are forced to stay indoors most of everyday or be forced to wear oxygen masks simply to go shopping, we will live to regret it.
When oozies uzis fill our streets, and gang warfare is commonplace because our courts, filled with corrupt right-wing bought-and-paid-for judges, are no longer looked to for justice, and our police officers are unable to keep the peace thanks in large part to their own corruption or short-sightedness in going after the real problems, we will live to regret it.
When diseases become rampant, or pandemic, because people choose to remain sick rather than gain quality treatment because they can't afford it or have no health insurance to cover the insurmountable costs, we will live to regret it.
When our candidates for government are only available through a small list of wealthy aristocrats because having money rather than people is the only means of success left in this country, we will live to regret it.
When a terrorist ignites a nuclear suitcase bomb in America forcing the shutdown of every freedom we hold dear because of the psychotic fear we will develop from it, when all along it could have been avoided if we fought the right war on terrorism and put money where it mattered most towards our security, we will live to regret it.
And when we exert brute force on a world that has turned a blind eye to our tragic way of life and circumstances, demanding that they follow our foreign policies and "leadership" or else, leading us to a conflict of biblical proportions, we.......well, we may not be able to live to regret it.
Our nation will live to regret what we have allowed it to become. Then again, we might not. But, all we can do is fight, fight, and fight, doing our best to stop this tragic fall from grace of which our nation is on a fast-paced course. And as we fight, we hope that we will be able to live to see another day and have the chance to repair the damage that will be inflicted upon us. If there is any silver lining, as I have said before, it is that we will be better prepared than the rest. So as we see our real impending crisis coming, all I can say is know what it is, how you can help try to stop it, and while doing that, live life now rather than later, while you still can. No matter how much our nation will regret its actions, you at least won't regret how you lived your life or how you prepared yourself.
