In another fine move in the Texas Legislature, Rep. Bill Zedler has filed HB 702, which requires a doctor to file a report with state/federal agencies if the doctor is treating any patient who might have complications from an abortion or who
previously had an abortion.
Furthermore, in the fine print, the bill specifies that even women who have had natural losses(i.e. miscarriages) would have to be reported by their subsequent physicians. The data required includes "2) the number of pregnancies the patient had before
the abortion, including: (A) the number of pregnancies resulting in live births, without regard to whether the child is living at the time
the report is prepared; and
(B) the number of pregnancies aborted, including
spontaneous or induced abortions."
The bill is an effort to intimidate and is an appalling affront to women's privacy and to doctor-patient privacy as well. Please email the authors of this bill and let them know it is outrageous. If you are in Texas, please spread the word about this and email your local representative.
