The current front page of the Powerline Blog has a FAQ section which includes the following item:
Q. Who funds your organization?
A. We don't have an organization. Sadly, no one funds us, but for the small amount we receive from Blogads. But we like funds, so if you're interested in funding us, let us know.
The truth is they are connected to an organization -- a right-wing think tank called the Claremont Institute (http://www.claremont.org/about/).
Here are the facts:
(1) All three bloggers that make up Powerline are lawyers as well as Fellows at the Claremont Institute, a right-wing think tank (not unlike the Heritage Foundation or the American Enterprise Institute). They have written articles in the National Review and other publications. So it's not as if they are average citizens writing an independent blog. They are political operatives who belong to a partisan group. Here are their bios:

http://www.claremont.org/about/staff/johnson.html
http://www.claremont.org/about/staff/mirengoff.html
(2) The Claremont Institute's Washington Fellow is William J. Bennett (http://www.claremont.org/about/staff/). That's the same Bill Bennett who worked in both the Reagan and Bush 41 Administration. (He's also the self-proclaimed moralist who turned out to be a major gambling addict.)
(3) The blogger who calls himself Deacon is Paul Mirengoff. According to his bio he works for the law firm Akin, Gump (http://www.geocities.com/pmirengoff/mypage.html). This is the same firm that employs the President's nephew George P. Bush. (Just Google George P. Bush and Akin, Gump to verify this info.)
As we can see, these guys have connections to the Republican Party establishment. They are right-wing activists pushing an agenda. It's clear that the ideas they express on their blog don't have much independence from their party or their think tank. So why do they claim to have no organization?
