Obviously we're only a few months in to this term, but we all know that campaigns get started before the ballot counting machines have cooled down in these days. Given that, it looks like VA's governor Warner is putting his feelers out for an '08 bid.
If I were considering a run in '08, I'd try to gain national attention and become well known in a positive light, something that's very important for a one-term governor trying to move up in the world. Right now, it looks like that's
exactly what Warner's doing.
I've read several articles about the education summit and all highlight Warner as the leader who 'spearheaded the weekend summit.' In addition, Warner's going to gain points by trying to deal with a 'crisis' and trying to accomplish something that people of all ideologies can agree on - improving our educational system. This effort also dovetails with what Warner has tried to do as governor to improve education in Virginia. Overall, if this is a first step of Warner's to become President, I'd say he's done well.
