I think there might be some cognitive dissonance in the U.S. Government.
The State Department on Monday detailed an array of human rights abuses last year by the Iraqi government, including torture, rape and illegal detentions by police officers and functionaries of the interim administration that took power in June.
New York Times
How can the administration point the finger at the monster they created and negatively accuse it of following the pattern they've set?
It cited "reports of arbitrary deprivation of life, torture, impunity, poor prison conditions - particularly in pretrial detention facilities - and arbitrary arrest and detention.".
If anything, the Iraqi government is only a reflection of itself. The depth of ignorance and hypocrisy in our present administration is profound, and the lying beyond anything our wonderful country has ever experienced.
The allegations of abuses by an Iraqi government installed by the United States and still heavily influenced by it provided an unusual element to the larger report. The report did not address incidents in Iraq in which Americans were involved, like the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib, which came to light in 2004.
Here's the killer:
A senior State Department official said the criticism of Iraq was in keeping with the administration's approach. "What it shows is that we don't look the other way,"
If the American people accept this then they're either far more asleep than I imagine, or they're just as dumb as the stump they (questionably) elected.
Is there anything of which the Bush crowd isn't capable? In an earlier diary Zapata28
had this to say "Is there anything the bush admin hasn't attacked?," a sentiment that embodies my feelings exactly. God, I hate those fucking people.
