Where can you get discussions on out-manuevering the right, the religious left, sex education in school and eat good food while getting sneak peeks at Ykos? At the meetups for kos members in the east bay, of course!
The second meetup was in Berkeley on Monday, March 7, and it was wonderful. There were about 9 of us, which considering we didn't post a diary about it beforehand like we did last time, isn't bad. We missed Karen and Kos (yes, he came and even brought his adorable son the first time), at this one, but there were enough of us to really keep the conversations going. Meeting fellow kossacks face to face isn't only just a nice extra, it makes the online blog community seem so much more palpable when you realize that the handles you see every day in cyberspace are actual people in the real world.
Gina, one of those in charge of the upcoming Ykos site, talked with us about internships and the website, and the first section of the event focused mainly on the set up of ykos and how it plans to meet it's goals and plans. We may have even found the first intern for Ykos! Then the conversation branched off into sex education in the schools, the Berkeley College Republicans (and how they are the largest organized group on the University campus, and whether the only way to beat the right is by "out-Chistianing" them with opposing Bible verses and righteous indignation. All these topics, and it worked just like dKos...everyone was involved, rants were had, opposite opinions aired, and we all ended the night smiling and getting along splendidly. Ah, the beauty of diversity...brought to you by the Democraic party...
So, if you live in the SF area, head to meetup and sign up to join so you'll know when the next one is, and if you're not from that area, we all strongly encourage you to start your own gathering of Kos-ers to meet and chat. You won't regret it, we promise.
Sincerely,
Round Peg, Tuffy, Gina, Twin Planets, WhisperCampaign, jimpol, norm, and Lurker
